Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Rt. Hon. Edward Davey MP Goes Home to Change His Bulbs!

Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change the Rt. Hon Edward Davey MP paid us a visit recently and learned all about the country’s only 100% fully LED lit commercial enterprise. JBGroup!
The Secretary of State has specific responsibilities for electricity market reform, carbon price, carbon plan and renewable energy strategy and had already been to see the work of our education partner Oldham College at their Green Technology Centre. He was shown around the factory and showrooms by Business, Education and Operations Manager Ben Ingham and JBGroup Manager Janet Grimshaw.
We’re already making a name for ourselves as a leading supplier, maintainer and installer of OLIS, Precision and Electrolux products for the Air Conditioning, Commercial Refrigeration and Hositality Servicing industries but it’s our work in the field of LED lighting and environmentally friendly products and systems that brought the Secretary of State to Chadderton on a wet and windy Monday afternoon.
LED lighting is an emerging force, with reported predictions that between 80 -90% of all lighting will be LED’s by the year 2021. LED lighting provides a far improved performance over traditional lighting, boasting better lumen results per fitting, which reduces the amount of fittings required. Better coverage due to no waste above the source, all lighting with LED’s is directed where you actually need it at ground level. The reduced energy costs, anything up to 90% less energy is used for LED’s and better maintenance levels, mean even more savings as LED strips last approximately 10 times longer than traditional bulbs.
The Secretary of State was amused to hear that JBGroup has such a low monthly bill for our electrical use that our utility company didn’t believe the meter readings! We explained how the company is saving thousands of pounds a year and that it’s something we’re keen to promote as we look to expand our business into the education and health care markets.
Ben Ingham explained to the Secretary of State “Imagine how much money could be saved by building or redeveloping a school with LED lighting… Hospitals could make huge savings in their energy bills by only using LED lights… Something as simple as changing the street lamps over to LED would save councils millions of pounds.”
Rt Hon Edward Davey MP said “This is very interesting… especially as the payback period on the initial investment is only 3 to 4 months… we need to get the message out there… I’m going home to change my light bulbs!”

We were joined on the day by our new business and media partners sfnpr and teachers from the Christ Church CofE Primary School, Chadderton. As part of our on-going commitment to campaigning for change and highlighting the issues around the way we use energy and resources we’re working on a series of environmental projects with pupils from the school.
